oil pan replacement
does replacing the oil pan involve removing that front motor mount?
and are there any words of encouragement (advise) before i partake in this project..95 neon sohc...thanks also, the car is running like poo...it sputters alot, hesitates alot, can this JUST be an O2 sensor, cause the car throws code 55 which is O2 right?? arent there 2 of them , can you tell which may be bad by sight? Im gonna lok at the plugs too and the wires are fairly new.. thanks |

My neon sputtered alot, it ended up being an o2 sensor...and as I learned from Scatch, the upstream sensor is usually the first to go. Which was the case on my neon.
Also, if you dont have a Haynes manual, check out the codes here: http://www.neons.org/neontsb/diagnost.htm Good Luck

Code 55 is the end of codes. If that was the only one you got than you are fine. Look for other problems. How long has it been since you did a general tune-up? What was done? How many miles are on it? Have you done any performance mods?
I don't think that the motor mount will be in your way. The '95 is a little easier to remove than the later years. Are you just changing the pan gasket or is something bigger? |

yeah, the only way to get the oil pan off is to take the front motor mount off.. shoot, the manual even says youre suppose to remove the a/c compressor & bracket...these cars werent designed for at-home mechanics. i guess thats how dodge makes that money. but i replaced the pan easy enough.
now the car is still running like doo-doo.. i noticed that the cat converter is rattling like a muther and the code is for the O2 sensor 51 or 52 ..im pretty sure it's the "running rich" one cause when you lift the hood all you can smell is fuel.so my question is..can the rattling in the cat cause the car to run like this??...i guess the guts are destroyed.. is there a way to test each O2 sensor to see which may be bad? thanks |

You can test the o2 sensors by using an ohmmeter, they should read somewhere between 5-7 oms if they're still good.

i have an oil pan and plug related question
#1 never get your oil changed at wal-mart...yes seems like common sence but being college student and how extremely low my car is makes it a hassel to get under there and do it myself (I have since parked it with on side up on the curb and shimmied under there to do it myself but this was before i gave in and did that) wal-mart used to charge $12 for an oil change and air filter change and your normal run of the mill points inspection, BUT they use mnumatic <sp tools and stripped my oil plug thingy the part that plugs up the oil pan, and therefore I had a massive leak that i was totaly un aware of until 2 months later... luckily no serious damage done but my dealership told me it would be $400 to replace the oil pan... My father in law laughed his butt off and went out and bought me a new plug that adjusts to the stipped oil pan thingy and slows down if not stops the leak for $4.97. We installed it , and , YAY no more leak... then the day after x-mas I got rammed into my front right side and after being in the shop the leak returned... my question is should i shell out the $400 to the dealership to replace the oil pan or should i have my father in law help me replace the plug again? lol kinda odd , sorry lol |
