Building one of my dream kits: AMT 1953 Studebaker PROGRESS
Well, I finally have one and God do I love this kit. It's one of my favorite cars, easily one of the most beautiful cars of the 50's, if not all time, and the kit is plenty easy to modify.
The plan is simple: Modern cruiser with plenty of power and style. The method: Viper engine transplant, car lowered at all corners and sitting on Revell '99 SVT Mustang wheels and tires, interior redone with Viper seats and custom console for the six-speed transmission. The body is already in color, and I love how this two-tone came out. Again, it's nail-polish (I'll be doing a tutorial on how to use nail polish by month's end, once I find the proper project to do the tutorial with). The lighted "cove" color is actually the primer wet-sanded with a pearl coat to get a luscious, unavailable pearl grey. ^_^ I wish the camera did a better job of picking it up because it looks gorgeous. Perhaps it'll show better in outdoor shots. I shaved all the V8 emblems, since I'm going to a V10 powerplant, and will have all the chrome trim done in short order. Hope you guys like it.

Im looking forward to seeing more of this one!
One thing though is that the AMT reissue from this year or a different one? If it is this years reissue does it come with the double whammy 392 hemi? I love that engine

Yes it is the Double Whammy issue and I agree, it's one of the best 392 Hemis out there. I'm still looking for what I'll put it in, but odds are it's going to find its way into a '41 Willys.

Okay, here's a mock-up that'll give you all an idea as to what's being built. I think you'll see the aesthetic I'm shooting for and just how well it complements Raymond Loewy's timeless design.
There. Maybe now you'll see that this will be quite an impressive piece once completed. Or maybe I just need to dump a few dollars into a better camera.

I use nail polish to paint the bodies of my models. Keep your eye out for a forthcoming tutorial thread on exactly how to get finishes like the one on this Stude using nail polish.

Ah, a nice car in the make here.
I would keep it nice and stock, but see you 're going for a modern cruiser look ... Fine with me ! Just make it well, as I think you' ll probably do! The paint looks nice, but I think we really should put a "buy-octacon-a-new-camera-fund". I 'll donate my first =a great car being built by a great modeler = fantastic result ? To be continued. hmm, very nice. Love how the wheels go so well with it.
As for nail polish, until Layla's Keeper comes out with one, here's one to tide you over: http://www.briansmodelcars.com/tutor...D=20&CurPage=1 I like it, and just might have to try doing that someday. Good luck LK! Hope to see it finished soon, along with the forthcoming tutorial.

lol, funny that this gets dug up because I sprayed the clear coat yesterday. The interior is almost done (two tone grey and red with Viper front seats) and the engine is practically done. Roller chassis, too. Just a matter of piecing her all together.
I'll see if I can't get some pics taken.
