neon lights

hey, this doesnt have to do directly with my cavalier but i was hopin someone could help...i just put two 4" neons next to the dome light, i spliced them together about 3" before each neon so i only had to run one wire to the little box where you can adjust the settings. off the back of that is the wire to the cigarette lighter...no problem for about a half hour, then they just shut off...did i put too much of a load on it or did it overheat??? ima check the connections tomorrow but im pretty sure theyre fine, i soldered em, wrapped em and everything. if any1 can help much appreciated --ddubbz
