I want to paint my 1:18 HW Civic Si suggestions and ?'s

Well you all should remember it. Considering what I have done to it already. What color???

Hotwheels TUNERZ Honda Civic -Gold
Mods: Painted Grill details, interior painted w/ red accents, Miasto S2000 steering wheel, and Seats/Belts, red brake calipers, red centercaps, 6-spoke wheels painted gold, 7-spoke wheels painted black, open/shutting side windows, removed tach/rollcage, painted tails solid red, divorced wastegate.


What color should I do.

Black- but has black rims already.
Yellow- already painted a 1:24 Civic yellow.
Electron Pearl Blue- possibly cant match exact.
Red
White

And how would I get the windows out? They are held in place with some "rivets" and might crack if I use force (happened to my 1/24 yellow Civic's windsheild). And how can I make clear headlight lenses and windsheild for this?

I say go for a dark mettalic blue.For the headlight and windshield your going to have to make new ones from clear styrene.

You can remove the windows by grinding the rivets using a dremel rotary tool, that's how I did it on my Hotwheels CRX... I'm using Duplicolor metallic gunmetal automotive paint to repaint it, make sure to prime the body, especially the plastic pieces for automotive paint tends to melt melt non-ABS plastics..

Are you gonna sand the paint off of the body before painting? I'd highly recommend it if you want to keep the details visible.

I want to chemically strip the paint on the body, maybe with some degreaser. Then I will use white primer. I still cant decide on the color, but it cant be near the Hotwheels OEM colors. They released their Civics in gold, light blue, and green. I used Duplicolor on the yellow Civic in the other thread, but I had to alternate coats with another type of paint(duplicolor was too light). Its good stuff, maybe i'll use it on this. If I want Electron Blue Pearl, should I use metallic coats of green, purple, and blue? or how would I make it?

I heard oven cleaner chemically strips the paint right off, but don't take my word for it. If you use it, don't let it touch any plastic! The plastic parts are already "ready" to paint. Unless you go to a bodyshop to get some thinned electron blue, your closest thing with cans is to spray silver, then coat it with candy blue. I believe testors have those colors. Good luck!

Paint stripper from an auto parts store (i.e. "Aircraft stripper") takes the paint right off. You need to remove everything that isn't metal, and I mean everything! This stuff melts plastic - get it on your windows and bye-bye model. I've got a totally disassembled 1/18 '67 Mustang in the works, look in the link in my sig.

The car is apart and I just tried oven cleaner, and the side design paint is barely weaker, but the gold is spotless!!! How long does OC need to sit?

I am going with white.

I have the side design completly off. I used thinner. The paint under the design is softer (from thinner) but still has perfect shine. I will just rub it down with thinner to dull it(and use it as primer), and spray white over it. Thats what I did with that yellow Civic 1/24.
