power gains on 99 ex vtec with mods
ok just got a 99 civic ex with vtec, and have installed dc header, c.a.i, and exhaust, so what kinda ponies am i looking at now, from the stock 127? also unfortunatly it is an auto ( but it is my fiances cause she cant and wont drive a stick ) i have a 94 civic dx stick smae setup, but a stage 2 clutch, and if it really matters the a/c and all its heavy components have been removed, so basicly im wodering about both of them?

35 whp with those three mods is not possible. A JRSC on a Civic only boosts the whp by 30-35 hp, so theres no way just simple bolt ons will do that. Youre really looking at about 15whp MAX.

ok so tell me this, ( and i know this cant be right ) i went to a muffler shop the other day cause we got a dual tip muffler off ebay and he said that 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 piping wouldnt be that much of a difference than the stock 1 7/8, now as far as power i dont know but i would think that the bigger the diameter of the pipe the deeper the sound, or atleast i think im right, so do you guys think it will hurt to leave it alone or do i need to change it, notice i said need to change cause we have just baught the car and right now with all the things we have gotten for it we just dont have that kinda money yet for the bigger size pipe

I think if you got a high flow cat and some 2 1/4 inch piping welded on you would get better gains that just a muffler and stock piping.

The larger piping is where tha gain comes from but has nothing to do with the tone. The tone is what the muffler is for. Custon 2 1/4 piping is cheap as hell compared to the price of an aftermarket catback system. Most systems run for 5 bills when a muffler shop can do the piping for no more than 150.

ok well i was just wondering cause that stupid idiot that i took it to said that it has to many bends in the pipes and i would have to get a factory setup or a catback, so i think he is just lazy and dont wanna do it. but i'll find someone to do it. and we have actually looked at a high flow cat but didnt know what to expect out of it, would that be better than just straight pipe from the header back?

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT My friend had i/h/e on his 2000 ex and put down 117 at the wheels when he dynotuned it. You're lookin around 135 at the flywheel max, so ~$1200 for 18hp. |

The site is wrong. There is no possible way to get 35 horsepower from letting a little bit more air into the little 127hp sohc engine. I went to that site and with a cold air intake(8-10hp), RACE header(9-13hp), exhaust(8-12hp), and throttle body(4-6hp) it says you can gain 9-31 horsepower. I don't see it saying if you do this on an EX it will add that much. On a DOHC I can see all those adding around 31, but even that's really pushing it. I take it you're one of those people who believes everything they read?
