Question Painting over chrome

Im looking at my new Revell 78 Corvette pace car and it has some chrome parts that shouldnt be chrome. Since I dont have any chrome stripping material can I just primer over the chrome and paint it or is stripping the chrome the only way to go? Thanks

Since you are going to paint it anyway, just sand the chrome off with some 600 grit sand paper, prime and paint. The primer isn't going to stick to the chrome very well so you would end up with a peeling or flaking problem.

What about leaving the chrome parts in bleach overnight?

I hear it does, but so far I've only used CSC to do it.

you shouldn't worry about some parts being chromed in places they shouldn't be, just dechrome the whole thing and use BMF to fill in the gaps. I've heard the bleaching thing leaves a smoother finish as well, but I am yet to try it out.

always remove chrome before painting... or the paint won't hold as well... i learned my lesson by trying to primer and paint over a metal plated s2k...

as what the syndicate has said, soak it in CSC or bleach, both works great.., wear gloves or your wife or girlfriend is not gonna want you to touch them after you killed your hands in those solutions.

Best of luck,
Peter

Btw over night CSC or bleech.. then use a toosh brush to clean off!!!
