Talbot !

This make filed into bankruptcy in the 80's. Before the Second War, it was a luxurious make, and in the 70's and 80's... less alas. When Peugeot bought it, they let this make sink.

Their first models :

I don't believe Talbot "filed for bankruptcy," but Peugeot did buy it. It was part of the purchase from Chrysler around 1980. Talbot was just merged into Peugeot.

I get so confused by this. (Insert very large grain of salt here).

Way back, we've all read about the S-T-D combine (Sunbeam-Talbot-Darraq) crashing economically in the mid-1930's. Rootes buys Sunbeam and (IIRC??) part of Talbot. indeed, Sunbeams were sold as Sunbeam-Talbots up to the mid-1950's. Meanwhile, Anthony Lago bought (part???) of Talbot -- I think, only think that part of the company was based in UK, part in France -- and changed the name to Talbot-Lago, making racing cars and beautiful street cars like the 'Teardrop'. That part fizzled (IIRC??) around 1959 and I have no idea whether anyone bought the corpse.

Rootes (we're back across the Channel again, sorry) gets into trouble and Chrysler buys it in the 1960's. Eventually it becomes Chrysler UK. Chrysler develops financial diarrhea -- gee, every company Talbot touches seems to end up with money woes! -- and sells off Chrysler UK and Chrysler France (Simca, maybe other brands) to Peugeot, but not before making the very interesting Sunbeam Talbot Lotus.

Whether anyone has steely enough nerves to try to resurrect either half of Talbot is beyond my understanding.

BTW, I've read that 'Talbot' is a kind of hunting dog; indeed the grille badge of my Tiger has what looks like a lion until you look close -- last vestige of Talbot influence there.

Can anyone add to (or correct) this?

I don't have a web page, but onlineshowoff.com has the car pictured:

There are some decent photos, but none high enough resolution to see the little Talbot dog in the grille.
