There really aren't a lot of photos out there of the car - whether you are looking for the original look of the grey over orange intro paint scheme, or the full Ueno Clinic liveried LeMans Winner - it's very hard to find any images of the car.

Its not too surprising considering that as far as the race version is concerned, it only competed in one race. Sure, the race was 24Hrs long and sure, it did finish the race in 1st position but there's still not very many photos of the car.

In fact, I can find better pictures of the diecast models that were built to commemorate the victory than I can of the actual car. Unfortunately digital cameras weren't around very much back then and scanning photos and putting them on the web wasn't too popular at the time either. It's also a real shame that the car hasn't been seen since it's victory. McLaren should really let that car out a little more often I think.

I have two good photos of the car - hi-res that is. One in it's original paint scheme and one in it's '95 LeMans race livery. I'll dig them up and post them both for you, but I'd expect that you will have them already.

Peloton, they showed it at Goodwood one year. 1999, I think. I went there with a camera but I just stared at it dumbfounded. A while ago I trolled the web and found a few ok pics, but by then I had decided to just enjoy what I come across and not collect anything. So I don't have copies.

Search around, though. I am sure you will find them. And if you do, plesae post.

Thanks,
Faisal.

Edit: Found a couple of links...

i dont think i have too many of the grey/orange...if any at all. some of those would be nice. and i am fairly sure that 001R has made an appearance beyond Le Mans. im not sure if it was Goodwood 1999 like tvrfreak said, but 001R has definantly been brought out for show. i have collected pics of it.

what about the Lehto video? has anyone a link to to where i can save it to my pc?

Here's the video - it's super tiny though, but that's the only version I have ever seen.

http://www.sjwinfo.org/f1/f1_movies/Misc/lehto.mov

It used to be available on McLaren Cars website along with the Andy Wallace/XP5 top speed run video, but the links are broken now.

It was definitely at Goodwood in 1999. Saw it with my own eyes. There's pics on the web to prove it too...I will post the link again.

There's also a couple of pics on the Cottingham site.

Well that photo can't be from 1999 because the car is still race-filthy. I know that 01R and the Harrods car along with 4 road cars attended the 1995 Goodwood FOS which followed shortly after the 24Hrs of LeMans - that photo must be from then...

I'm not doubting that it appeared in 1999 btw - I'm just saying that photo can't be from that year.

Here's the two best photos of the car - 1st in prototype trim and then in race trimmings. The race photo is actually a press photo that used to be available on BMW's website, hence the focus on the "BMW V12 Power" stickers on the rear.

If you want the high-res version, right-click on the link below each photo, select 'Copy Shortcut..." and then paste that into a new browser window.

And here's the only other great photo of it in prototype trim:

Yeah, I realized that after I posted it. The photo is not from the time when I saw the car. In 1999, it was very clean. And it did not move--it was just displayed on the grass. I wasn't sure about the year being 1998 or 1999 when I made my first post, but then I was able to pull up my travel records and confirm everything. I can't believe I didn't take pictures. I was just too overloaded, I guess.

I didn't know much about McLarens then (still don't, compared to Peloton), just that they were the coolest car in the world. Luckily there was an F1 journalist there who told me about every single feature of the car as he took hundreds of pictures. He pointed out the gold leaf in the engine, the suspension linkage, flat undertray, LM mods, what the control panel switches did, etc. etc. Very cool experience.

Another funny thing that I remember was all these actors dressed up as ancient Romans. They would walk around and spout forth whatever they felt like in olde English, and break into song, dance, revelry, whatever. Hilarious stuff!

I wish that photographer's pictures were on the web.

Thanks for the compliment

For the record though, I'm just 'book smart' when it comes to the McLaren F1. There's a lot that I don't know, a lot that I am basing off of second & third hand info, or what I can gather from the details of the many photos I have. It's not always easy and sometimes I just have to make an educated guess. I appreciate all the info I can gain from your experiences and the first hand experiences of others that visit this forum immensely!

I mean I certainly can't claim to have pushed the red button to fire up XP5 and then stab the gas a few times to bring the revs up. Heck, I haven't even seen a road car in person, just the GTRs that competed at Laguna Seca in '97. It's really quite sad to be an "expert" on something that you've basically never even seen. Now please don't laugh at me...

You're talking about a photo from the Nissan LeMans website unless it's the one that Stratoraptor just posted.
