93 ranger missing and backfiring

i have a 93 ranger 4.0 with 157k on it. it runs great most of the time. the other day it started missing really bad when i was just cruising along, but would run great when i punched it. i put fuel injector cleaner in it and it fixed it for about 3 days. now it is doing it about half the time. any ideas?

keep in mind fuel injectors only clean grime half way, they don't clean anything that's been on there for a while. any hard deposits on your injectors and you're out of business. just on the off chance, check your spark plug wires, almost sounds like you might have a break somwhere that shorts and cuases your sparkplug to misfire every now and then. in that case though, you'd probably wouldn't have had any success with the injector cleaner. check your oil, as always. the only other thing i can think of to do is check everything, starting with your air intake, and work your way to the engine. if you find anything, replace it obviously. if you can't find anything just take it to the dealership and see what the diagnostic comes up with, that's why they made them in the first place. hope you get it all sorted out soon.

your local punker...
