Angry transmission problem

I have a 1993 Geo Metro with automatic transmission. When I first drive the car, it shifts fine, but after a few minutes, it won't shift right and I have no revese gear. If I let it sit a while, it shifts fine again (including reverse) but then after a few minutes it starts all over again. Any ideas?

Get a fluid flush. The tranny fliud is prolly no good. Also check the fluid level.

The tranny fluid is full and it's not too old. It had been changed at one time. Why does it do this after a period of time. Is it heat related?

sounds like it is heat related. Is your radiator ok? The transmission cooler is built into the radiator. The lines could possibly be plugged up, and not cooling the trans. Try hooking up a cheap transmission cooler from autozone to the oil lines from the tranny.

I will give that a try. I guess I might as well change the fluid and filter and see if that takes care of it. Do you think, then, it is the fluid casing it? That would be much better than putting a new tranny in! Thanks for the help.

Same Problem

I had the same problem in my 92 (1.0l.) Replaced the filter and fluid. Replaced the radiator ($10.00.) Finally replaced the Tranny ($50.00 + 120.00 for all new seals and gaskets and some tools.) Runs like a top now
