How high will a stock 302 bottom end rev to?
I have a modded 302, and was wondering if anyone could help me with this. I dont want to drop any parts in my oil pan! I havent done anything to the bottom end. How high will it SAFELY rev to?

I can rev my rebuilt stock bottom end motor 6,100 rpms no problems at all. A stock bottom should be good to 6,500 rpms or so I believe. Someone else will have to varify that for me though.

That would depend on the model of 302 you have. The valvetrain is more suspect on the 302 in most instances than the bottom end. If you float a valve you could wind up doing a lot of damage as well.
The 302/5.0 was never released (other than the Boss 302) as a high revving engine even though it's design would permit serious rpm. Most 302s will peak power by 4500rpm, unless modified, and even then, most will drop off after 5500rpm. If you're shifting much higher than that, you're not gaining anything without head/cam/intake.

My top end goes as follows:
Holley 600 cfm carb, edelbrock air-gap intake, ported and polished heads, trick flow valvesprings, crane roller rockers. I dont think im floating the valves, but a weird sound comes about at 4500 rpm and up. I am trying to find what it could be. |
