Another Mystery McLaren this time in NY...

About 3 months ago there was a black (i think) McLaren F1 for sale on www.thecarexperience.com in New York, i got my mom to call up about it but she didn't want to talk to guy about it and so hung up. It dissapeared off the site about a week after that. All i know about this mclaren is that it was in new york and that it was actually in a showroom because i also have pics taken by some guy (small res but gives you an idea) that proves it was in a showroom. Do u guys have any info on it? (it can't be seldoffs because the interiors don't match unless he re-did the interior) i'll post the pics that were on the add first and then the pics some guy took of it..

Well the color is not black - look at the areas of the car where the light is hitting it - it's a dark gray color.

I have some other photos of this car taken in Germany at a motor show in 2000. It was being displayed by Schaefer Automobile - the German authorized service center for McLaren's. It has to be the same car as I doubt that anyone else would choose that interior...

Now - who says those photos were really taken in New York? I see a two door Land Rover Freelander in the background and IIRC when I first saw those photos, that vehicle wasn't available in the USA yet.

Could be just another situation where someone was brokering the sale and happened to be in NY. It's a shame your mom didn't get more info.

BTW: The second set of photos with the AUTONET plate are indeed the same car, but they came from a Japanese website. Maybe the guy who took them was visiting Germany?

The car is also seen here - listed for sale at 1.2 Million Euros -

http://www.mclarenf1.de/angebot01.htm

But I recall Maarten saying that it wasn't really there anymore.

One thing I notice from the ad on that site is the "Dezember 1994" in the upper right corner. I'm guessing that's the build date and if so, I have a strong suspicion that this is car #025 - listed as "Dark Purple Pearl".

Oh, and mini_magic - I have edited this post 4 times now - see how easy that is...

Backing up my claim on the "Dark Purple" color are these two photos, also from the Japanese site:

Note the Senna "S" logo on the back of the car in all of these photos, which also ties them all together.

Yep - that's edit #5 Mr mini_magic - you should really try it sometime.

the car on that site could well be the purple peal car, look at the front left side, there is a reflection but it clearly has a purple haze to it.

also, do u think you could direct me to or post the pics you have of this car at the auto show. thanks

I'm searching for them right now. I just have sooooo many pictures...

You can try doing a search for "Essen Motor Show 2000" or some combination of that, because that's the show they displayed the car at. IIRC, it didn't look very purple in those photos either, but it did have the same Senna "S" logo on the back - oh, and the same ugly ass interior...

i didn't say it was there or not, i said i wasn't sure, since the normal schaefer automobile website doesn't list the car. and i think some bmw dealership would do something like piss their pants if they could say they have the best car for sale there. somebody should email the service center, and pretend to be a rich man..... who can say he is an IT-guy, with computers...
oh yeah peleton.... that's you

Herr Schaefer is selling these cars for the owners, and I'm not sure each car is actually for sale. Schaefer won't supply additional information unless you make a substantial deposit. Dealing with German owners is very tricky. They know how to get the money. You may not get the car. Americans have virtually no rights in German courts.
