Question Chug Chug Chug

The 94 Metro my girlfriend has owned since new has 150k on it and it still runs great most of the time. It lately has an intermittent hesitation and rough idle problem. Sometimes it gets up and goes great, sometimes you have to flutter the throttle and then it takes off. I have a few questions that maybe someone can answer.
Is this engine a TBI, MPI or carb fuel system? I suspect it's TBI and if so, is there a rebuild kit for the injector?
Can my problem be vacuum related or some kind of ignition, ECM quirk?
All the timing and plugs, wires look good and the car passed smog not too long ago.
Is there a sensor that might be giving problems?

I hope you guys can help since we rely on this car to do 90+ miles per day at speeds of 70 and really need the fuel economy it used to give us. I'm just afraid the girl might pull in front of traffic and get slammed if this car stalls out completely.

It's TBI. You might want to replace the timing belt if it's got 150k. Your problem is most likely the cap/rotor on the distributor. I would replace the cap/rotor and put a set of bosch platinum +4 plugs in it. could also be a fuel filter.

Thanks, The timing belt was changed 25 k ago. As for the the cap rotor and plugs, I'll investigate. Where is the fuel filter located and do I need any special tool to remove it?

it's behind the lower control arm mount in the rear drivers side. It's a real pain in the butt to get out, especially if it's rusty. de-pressurize your fuel system before you work on it tho. Remove the 15a fuse from under the hood, and crank the engine over for about 5 seconds, that should work.

lol, yeah, that would be a funny race. I've had 9 of them total. Best cheap car you can buy. Not saying they're the best, but what other car can you buy for $100, and put an engine in for $200, and have minimal problems for the next 50,000 miles, heh. The one I've got now is prolly the last one i'm gonna have. Runs between 15.7 and 15.4 in thr 1/4 right now. The metro's downfall is under-body rust problems *lower control arms snap off the frames when they rust*, and they're too light to get traction without an LSD or diff locker. For less than 6k tho, you can have a mint looking suzuki swift GTi, or a metro convertible with a GTi engine swap that'll run mid 12 second 1/4's. And if you NOS it and want to spend the money modifying it to run a JDM Suzuki Cultus engine and Cultus AWD driveline, you could have it running 10's for less than $12k I've seen people who dump $15k into the motor alone with their DSM's and still can't break 11 seconds in the quarter mile. The M body cars are small, but not as small as a Miata, lol. If you really want a car to use as a street racing sleeper, the metro is the ultimate weapon, heh. Cause who would ever think a Metro would run with Altimas, civic SI's, and all those other SC's. www.ssgti.com

I think the dark subaru WRX blue, with a little purple hue and metallic added would look real good.

Far better race would be a Gremlin against a Pacer. (either of which I'd take over a Pinto or Vega anyday.)
