Question SiR brake hoses same as other Civics?

Ok, this is going to sound VERY Australian, but on a 200km drive home from my GF's with 4 kids on board, I'm running a windy road when a Kangeroo (!!!) jumps onto the road.

I hit the brakes and get around it (having just been talking to my 12yo how it's best to be prepared for anything) when I feel the brakes go spongy and the pedal heads down to the floor. 30kms more using the gears and handbrake and the brake light goes on - no fluid is my guess but it's dark so no way to tell yet.

My guess is a ruptured hose (car has 248,000kms on it) and I'm thinking it's going to have to be replaced. Only problem is that There is exactly one SiR Civic in the country and Honda Australia has no idea on the parts and will not support it (ouch).

Does anyone know if the domestic Civics hoses will fit the SiR Calipers or do I need Accord or Integra (if so, what model?). I'm assuming our GL Civics run the same hoses as the USDM Si/DX etc.

Any help would be appreciated - I'm 800kms from home and have to do a run from Melbourne to Sydney in a few days

Cheers

Do you guys have those CRX Sis with all disc brakes? My bet would be that those would work. That or perhaps 92-95 Civic Si lines.

Yep - rears are the same as the Aussie Si CRX - as I recollect, someone posted that the Integra or Accord ran similar fronts - I'm hoping that the rear has gone to tell yo uthe truth as it's a known quantity - fronts aren't the same as the CRX though

Cheers

You know what size brakes the front of an Si-R is? For the front I would say 90-91 EX Sedan (supposing you have those) but I think that 90-93 Integra would most likely fit your car.

Setanta: I've just done some searching on the net in Japan for braided hoses to check compatability across models.
http://www.hi-ho.ne.jp/wic-izumi/brake-clutch/honda.htm

It shows the EF9 Civic SiR hoses are the same as EF3 (Civic Si) hoses
and also shows that the JDM EG6 & EG9 (SiR) have the same hoses.

It's not as good as Honda data but they might just fit, as it says that EF3 (Si) hoses fit, there is probably a good chance the 4th gen GL front hoses will also fit.
Other than that I'm sure you have a 5th Gen Civic Hatch or Sedan model in Australia that is equipped with 4wheel discs.

CRX and Integra hoses are not the same, according to that site.

oh another thing i just thought about.

Here in NZ we got a 4th gen 'GTi' it was a SOHC 1600 EFI and it had 4 wheel disc brakes, it was basically the same as an 'Si' just SOHC, but with full leather interior.

I assume if we got that model here, I'm sure you got something fairly similar in Australia, so that would most likely be the best bet for matching parts.

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar and your blood is worth bottling

I found out what happened, the driver's side hose had rubbed against the firewall and abraided away - me hitting the brakes to avoid the 'roo simply popped it - fluid was splashed everywhere. I have a set of new hoses being custom made (cheaper than Honda) but the info is well worth knowing.

Thanks!!!!!

Yep - except a dog wont totally destroy the front of your car The damn things are solid muscle. Worse is a wombat which has been known to flip a car. Ill get some road kill pics for you of 'roos on the way back to Sydney if you want

Seriously, I was in country Victoria when it happened - you don't normally see roos on the road

sorry, I don't have any pics of them, they weren't all that common, but are quite nice really.
There is also a 5th Gen GTi.. It came with the DOHC D16A9 (ZC), I see them more often than the 4th gen..

Yep - that ZC powered 5th gen was a "Si" over here and was top of the range with the Breeze (1.3 single carb) at the bottom, the GLi (1.6 PGMFi) next followed by the VTi (1.6 PGMFi SOHC VTEC).

did the 1.3 single carbs have a twin choke? or any of the models?
