Cat removal

I'm wondering if there is much performance to be gained by removing the cat as I don't have enough $$$ to change the entire exaust yet but can get the cat removed quite cheaply. Also the guy at pit stop rekons that the heat sensor can be just cut off is this true?

anybody?:bandit:

Don't bother gutting your cat if you can't afford the rest of the exhaust. The performance benefits would not be noticable because it is the rest of the exhaust that is so restrictive. Also, it makes the back of your car dirty too.

Just my thoughts anyway.

If your in NZ you can take it off no probs, I don't think you have any legal issues to deal with, like in AUS, I thinks its a $20,000 fine. Either just gut it, or put a 3 in pipe thru the middle or replace the whole section with a 3 in pipe or if your on a tight budget an just weld on some 3in ends. People reckon that a cat is really restrictive, but after doing a bit of research they are restrictive but not as much as everyone thinks. The cat also acts like a muffler, so when you take it off it sounds a bit louder.

My NA Skyline definatly goes better after removing the cat. You just have to connect the heat sensor to an earth so that the little light on the dash doesn't go all the time. You can just cut the sensor off if the light doesn't worry you.

I've read that after 60000km the cat is stuffed anyway. If your car has done more than this, then get rid of it or replace with new item.. Also replace back muffler with something more free flowing. That wouldn't cost much, the rear muffler is very restrictive.

I've driven Two Stock R32 Skyline GTS-T's..

One Had a 3" Exhaust
The Other Had a Std. Exhaust..

The 3" Exhuast one really wanted to flick up to 7 grand really quickly and easily..
Where as with the std exhaust, it felt like i was revin revin revin (looks down at the tacho) reving revin (almost there) ahh gear change..

It was a definate improvement..

Actually being the first turbo cars I have driven apart from a RX3 13B Turbo getting 198 rwkw..

I couldn't belive the difference an exhaust makes on a turbo car..

I had put exhausts on all my other cars(NA) and didn't notice a big difference but yer.. thats all I have to say..

Sweet thanks Doc! I talked to a friend last night who works at Pit Stop... he's just going to cut the cat out and put a 3" pipe in its place... the rest of the exhaust is sweet as its really free flowing so should be a bit nicer once that cat is outa there... but we'll c
