Car Salesman to become extinct in the near future

Yep. It could happen and probably will. Here's why. Ever since Henry Ford invented the Model-T car manufactures have had a love hate realtionship with thier salespeople. Actally they would like to eliminate them compltely. Why? Because they take a cut in 10-20% cut in the total dealer profit on a car sale.

Dealership bean-counters see thier salespeople as another mouth to feed off the gross profit of a car or truck sale. {I won't even mention the cost of workers comp and health insurance}

Up until now the manufactures haven't been able to figured out a way to eliminate salespeople but I assure you they are constantly trying to find ways to phase them out completely, and once they do... it's woe to the consumer and price negotiations.

Here's the plan. Eventually all new car dealerships as we know them won't exist. They cost too much money for the expensive real estate that they sit on, and have to employ way too many personel.

Gone will be the days of massive brick and motar mega dealerships which will be replaced by small satellite centers which would be manned by one or two sales mangers. Car buyers will come in and order a car on a touch screen computer which will define the vehicle's equipment, price and availability. No new cars will be stored at these satellite centers.

The new vehicles will actually be stored at remote out of the way
{ cheap rent} storage facilities where hundreds of hundreds of new cars will be housed.

The selected consumer vehicle will then be transported from the storage facilty to either the consumers home or the satillite center where it will then be delivered to the customer. There will be no negotiations. How do you negoitate with a computer anyway?

Service and repair work: There will be large service centers for repair and mechanical work. These service centers will do nothing but provide mechanical work on new and used cars. Where you buy your new car from and where it will be serviced will be two seperate entities.

This is already being done in Europe and Asia. It will happen here eventually. How's that for glimpse into the future of American Auotmotive Sales.

I hope it happens soon!!!! How many times have you walked in to get a testdrive and have to listen to some douchbag tell you about the radio knob features when you yourself already know every detail about the car from reading up on it online

As long as I have the ability to haggle the price of the car with the sales manager - I'll be ok with it.
