Talking first bike run and first 03 Cobra run

Fun night

Headed 210W pretty desolate for 10:30ish. Come across a bike that's shadowing me at 80. He pulls in front but I don't pay him much attention. It was an import sportster, chrome handle bars and no windshield (probably a Yamaha). He switches lanes and slows up and gets next to me. I blip the throttle to 85 and he bites. He jumps to my front bumper before I mash it. He stays there all the way thru third (~110), I don't lay off. Fourth kicks in and he slips to my passenger door. He hunches over to get better aerodynamics and he stays at my door to 135. By 140 he enters my blind spot and I'm thinking "I hope this guy doesn't get sucked in by my wake". I can hear the roar of the wind above my car and think "SHIT I hope my TTops don't fly off". He pops into my rearview at 147 and lays off (he braked cause he shrunk very quickly). I coast down to 110 then brake for a bend in the road. My GF who was sleeping thru this finally wakes up and asks what I am doing (good thing she didn't see the speedo almost pegged). I slow to about 70 and waited for him to come by to give him the thumbs up but he stayed way back. I then took the 5 south.

I'm cruising at 75 in the passing lane when a cop car comes up fast behind me 90-100. I'm like "Oh shit, I'm fucked". The cop switches lanes to my relief and cuts thru traffic to get the next offramp (close call). I continue to cruise and come up on an unmarked cop car in the next lane. Two 03 Cobras (1 red coupe and 1 blue vert) run up my ass then cut right and pass the unmarked car on the right. They slow to about 85 as they pass the cop and I speed up a bit to keep them in sight. The unmarked car falls about 1/2 a mile behind and the Cobras pick up the pace. I tried to give chase but there was too much traffic and they started darting thru lanes. I don't like to do that. They take an offramp in Burbank and I don't follow. After about a mile or so Mr Red Cobra pops up at my passenger door. There was an 1/8 mi or so break in traffic in front of me so he floors it and cuts in front off me. I jump on it and stay right behind him. He had 1.5 to 2 cars on me and he didn't pull an inch to about 105. At this time my GF wakes up again and comments "What's that smell, what's burning??". That's when I smell it, burning oil. "Oh fuck" I think to myself and ease off to 75. I check oil pressure (OK at 65psi) then temp (OK at 240). Meanwhile the Cobra switched lanes and takes the 134 ramp. I was too freaked out to give chase. I monitored my oil pressure all the way home and it looked fine, the burning smell wasn't present either. Looks like Mr Red Cobra might need a tuneup tomorrow.

All in all I had an excellent top-end run and finally got to play with an 03 Cobra. I think I'm gonna call out a stockish one out tomorrow at Fontana. Thanks for reading.

I love this part.

Not many sport-compact people can say that. 147MPH and the speedo's still not pegged.

(Well, I sorta can...my speedo reads to 150MPH)

That's very reminiscent of my highway run into of an 03 Cobra this past week. My post on that is in the Mustang forum

Good work! I have yet to run an 03 Cobra, although with my car mostly back to stock and only pulling in the upper 13s, I don't really think I should be looking to come across one

Yeah, my "from a stop" tries against the 03 I raced were pretty futile...

Yup, I hear you. I found a stockish one at the track (Catback, Chip, and sticky tires) and the guy ran a 12.998@106 once the temp cooled off a bit. The best ET I could muster was a 13.739 w/ a 2.199 60'. The best MPH I got was 102.88 at about 8PM. BTW Fontana is at about 2000' and the day temp is damn near 100 deg.

BlkCamaroSS, I'll be sure to check out your post.

I hate that Fontana track with a passion. I alost killed my car on the juice. there is little to no traction there. I ran a best of 14.1 sec. at 104 mph there w/o the juice. BTW I was spinning in 3rd ear. The only time I lose traction on the street in 3rd is when i am on the juice. That track sucks. I prefer LACR to it.

If you are running high 12s, I'd say it's definitely a driver's race. If he's an average to poor driver you should do OK. Tell us how you do.

I'm interested in hearing how you do as well. Since you have a little prep time, try and get a video of it
