What gain can i get from turbosmart boost controller?

Hi guys,
just wondering what sort of a gain i can get from a turbosmart boost controller.
ATM i have standard boost (around 7psi). And am going to put it up to 12psi.
Mods are below, plus i use 98 octane optimax.

There is alot of difference in 5psi. Couldn't say how many HP, but you will feel the difference.

Ethan,

I ran around for a few months with the standard boost (95 GTS-t) and thought it was quite good.

Then I invested in a TurboXS HPBC which is just a bleed valve with a anti wastegate creep control. Took it upto 12-13 pound.

Let's just say it felt like a big improvement. Comes on boost harder and faster, and more power.

Spend the cash and get one in, the best bang for buck I've done.

OH - BTW, don't forget to reset your ECU after you've put it in so it re-learns the maps for the higher boost.

thanks Ben & Jay.
And yeah resetting the ECU sounds like a very good idea. I would of totally forgot about that!
Im getting a turbosmart 2 stage controller, where ill set one stage at 12psi, and the other stage probly at 7 for day-to-day driving.
Would i reset the ECU when its at the 12psi setting???? or at the lower setting?

Can I make a suggestion that might save you a few dollars, check out my post on "Cheap boost control for a R33" use that as your low boost setting. Then just buy a Turbosmart single controller($100) and tee it into the wastegate line before the factory tee(so you'll have 2 in a row)
then purchase a 12v petrol/gas lock($27) and attach the TBC to that with the other end blocked off and not attached to the wastegate as it's intended to be(so the ball bearing gate won't have any affect on boost, personally I didn't notice that boost came on faster even with it installed the way Turbosmart intended anyway).
Then all that's left to do is mount a switch in the cabin somewhere for your hi/lo boost.

Just a suggestion it's up to you which way you want to spend your money, also another point if your willing to spend almost $300 on a Turbosmart controller, you could probably get a s/hand EBC for $350-$400.

turbomad:
im getting a turbosmart 2 stage controller + a speco boost gauge all for about $250. So i really dont mind paying that much anyway.
I know your idea is alot cheaper and probably just as good, if not better. But i already have bought the turbosmart controller and the gauge is being fitted tomorrow.

But anyway, what gain do you think i could get going from 7psi to 12psi????

I would say about 20-30 kw at the wheels, more if you fit a SAFC or Unichip or some other way of correcting the A/F ratio as they tend to run real rich when boost is lifted. I'm facing that problem right now and can't decide which road to go down, any suggestions anyone?

to me the s-afc is theway to go cause you can readjust the fuel when you do your next mods with out havingto go to unichip to have it retuned there is also the ITC which adjusts timing. the third option if you believe you will go mad and do lots of mods is an apexi power fc is the go they are around 1800 - 2000 but are a replacement computer that is full adjustable they also remove speed a rev limits or raise them and give heaps of other adjustments. they are great for turbo upgrade and all the other stuff. you would be better to wait an extra month or 2 to get the power fc if those were you goals. the rest are stop gaps and will cost you more in the long run although they are cheaper to begin with .
I have an s-afc as my power goals are quite set I want 160 -170 rwkw and shouldbe able to achive that if I wanted 200 rwkw+ I would lookelse where.
cheers

do you guys know how much a s-afc costs??? and also the unichip?
What does the unichip actually control? the fuel, timing, boost????

I definitely know i need more than just a boost controller, and in the long run i will definitely get some kind of fuel controller or a unichip or power fc.

ethan you should be able to find on the net a s/hand s-afc for around 450 new they are 800 odd. if I was you I would wait that little bit longer and get a power fc your car is all quality as for the unichip give it a miss cause you probasbly don't have any one to tune it in mildura as long as you have some one with a dyno there give the guy the manual to read and if he knows how to tune efi he should be able to work out the power fc. its not uncommon with the power fc to get 15-25 kw increase in power.
cheers

I can see your pic when I go to "user photo" in your profile. I imagine you've copied that url into the right bit in your profile; you also need to put image tags around the url: that's img with [ and ] around it, and then /img with [ and ] after the url

This explains it
