homemade turbo or mini me??

my friend is about to trade me his crx (along with a port an polished y8 head uninstalled) for my teggy. I can't decide if i should just do the head swap or sell the head to start my turbo project. IF i do the mini me i want to use the V-AFC to control the vtec and tune it right. But i want a turbo so bad it isn't funny. I was thinking I could do the mini me and turbo it later but with the high compression from the head swap its kinda iffy. So i was wondering anyone thoughts on this.

I also have a questions about useing the V-AFC. I know you can activate the VTEC with an rmp switch but i want the capability to tune the fuel. On the other hand i only have a vague idea how this will work. I think you hook up the V-AFC to the ecu and it intercepts signals for the fuel curve and adjusts them to your settings right?? ok so does that mean ill have to go grab the ecu out of a ex and wire it all up to use the V-AFC. Any body whos has done this please give me some knowledge.

What about getting a mini-me, building it up, then turbocharging? Once you feel that boost, you'll be addicted, that's for sure.

As for the V-AFC/VTEC issue, I am not quite sure..I don't have any experience with this problem..I'm sure someone here has, however.

i have the fields vtec controller and i can control my fuel setting thru incriments thruout the rpm range and i have the pm6 ecu*stock*, is the crx an si? if it is i would say sell the y8 head and just go for turbo on that motor, youll probably be much happier that way

yea its an si. but i think ill go with the mini me build then do the turbo that way i can run more boost. so you use the fields controller to activate the vtec right? did you have to wire the vtec to the ecu for that to work or just run a wire to the controller.

personally i'm not into the mini-me. more trouble than it's worth consdiering how cheap sohc vtec's have become. but, that is just my opinion...different strokes for different folks.

as for turbo, dropshop has some info i think you will find usefull. please stop by: http://www.thedropshop.tv/vafc.htm. dropshop is a fellow civic & crx owner who owns/runs a performance shop. i've known him quite awhile now and i would say it's safe to say he's addicted to turbo

I would sell the head and go turbo. The turbo will be easier to manage/safer with the lower compression of the a6. That's just my opinion though. The dropshop vafc hack is sweet, I'm gonna use it for my turbo project. I ordered a vafc last week, and I'm workin' on gettin' the injectors right now.

all motor is the way to go. if u want to pull strong consistent 1/4's and at the same time have a well rounded daily driver then u should beef up the motor.

how much are u gonna spend on a turbo, parts, etc? just swap in a gsr b17 or b18. a kid i know has a rex with a b18 and he owns my fkn car. i would def go with ur motor before u start throwing around boost.

no i don't mean i can run more boost with a vtec i said "build" the mini me as in rebuild the bottom end and that means you can run more boost. I was going to do the T3, hf/std manifold with custom adapter, downpipe, find an intercooler, custom i/c pipeing, 1g dsm b/o, S-AFC controller, and maybe 1g injectors. it'll just take longer to get all the pieces together and i will already have the head if i get the crx, that will just be easier. also i need a good daily driver. so im still undecided as of yet.
