Chrome window trim ?

Anyone ever removed the chrome window trim on a sedan? I hate the way it looks, just wondered what's underneath it and/or what it would look like if it was painted black or something. Pics?

I painted mine black, or the color it was originally. It was a pain masking all of the area off, and it requires alot of attention to detail or you will get lines. I used this stuff called "black-it-out" and you can get as glossy of a finish as you want, you just spray a heavier coat on to get it glossier. I would think you could use just about any paint as long as you lightly sand the surface with a fine sandpaper.

well has anyone ever taken theirs off? cause i dont know if i really wanna go through the trouble of taping it all of and then re-doing it. Becuase on the driver and passenger front door, the trim is pushed up a big, and there is a gap near the window. So would it look really bad if I would take it off? or should i just leave it be?

I've heard that you have to take off the mirror, and it is really hard to not break the clips when taking it off, so I just masked it.

Yeah, I really want to take mine off and possibly re-paint then, because mine looks like it's ready to come off anyways... I can grab it and twist it out a little bit...

The mirrors don't clip in, they're held on by 3 bolts... shouldn't be a problem.

sorry if that was confusing. I meant you have to unbolt the mirror. And then you can get at all the trim's clips.

It is some kind of clip like thing, but I'm sure it is stuck on there due to age, and there is a rubber part on the bottom and the top that I'm sure is kind of on there due to age.

I just went and looked at mine a bit closer, and on the chrom trim that goes over the top edge of the doors, there's a clear plastic cover over the chrome. That is the part that I can kinda twist a little bit, it's coming loose, so I think I will just rip the clear plastic off, and then paint all the chrome trim black.
