Honda Civic vs 3/S ???

Hey, i have a delema for yall. i currently own a 99 honda civic ex 2dr, with full ground effects (custom chosen by me) a full cat-back, a cold air intake, with k&n, and bypass valve. (also had to put me a system in there! always a must) and the place where i get my work done on my car is promising me that if i let him turbo my car it will run 12's guaranteed! but it will cost me 4 G's! not to mention the countless other things that i need to do to complete her (exp.: clutch, new tires, better suspension,...) plus i need to take care of some damages that were done to my ground effects (nothing major but a pain in the ass none the less) now what im considering is selling the civic and picking up a 3000GT VR4. (ive always loved those cars!!!) the place i get my work done is telling me that its a bad idea.( course that could be cuz he's a honda/acura specialist and doesnt want to lose buisness of a good honda) other people are telling me that if i go VR4 i can easily get her runnin daily 11's or 12's, and be a much better car. so i hear both ways. bassically my goal is to have a tight ride that can be my daily drive car, yet still (when called upon to do so) run me a good low 12 or 11. any help will be greatly apreciated !!! infact all input into this matter will be greatly apreciated! thanx

I imagine the insurance would be much higher on the 3000gt, but if thats not an issue to you Id say get that, but all in all it comes down to what YOU want.

I forgot to mention, I really doubt that with just a turbo kit your stock EX can run 12's without some internal work done and still be ok for daily driving.

Check the prices of upgrading the GT's turbo system to run " 11-12's ". It ain't as easy as you think.

however the VR-4 twin turbo does run the quarter in the mid 13's, so i dont see why 11 or 12 sec passes is to far out of reach?

well in reguards to the 12 sec. turbo civic, (to ye who found it hard to believe) i was right there with ya, in being rather skeptical of wether or not she would run a twelve, however the guy i get my work done for is specialized in honda/acura, and certified by them, and strait from japan. and he is swearing by the fact that she will do it, with turbo, clutch and tuning from him. he guarantee's it, or money back, so i would tend to think that with that kinda wieght riding on this he's not BS'ing me... just what i thought... but on the daily driving part he was a lil shadey... so u may be correct there... and in reguards to the comments by esp and b16, yeh the VR4 starts out with mid to low 13's and i have another tuner who specializes in just mitsubishi and nissan, telling me that it isnt far fetched at all to get her runnin daily 11 -12's. he's tellin me that with about 6 bills she would be running 12's. so.... however one thing that is weighing heavily upon my mind is the fact that apparently (aside from overhead costs of both cars) the civic will cost me alot more to get to the point i want her, and the VR4 wont take too much to get there. alas it is a tough descision and the one thing i hear the most is" its whatever you want to do" or "whatever path you want to take, and can afford". but i just thought i get some other honda enthusiased opinions as well, because despite my love for the 3/S cars, i also love Honda's!!! and me and my lil civic have been thru quite a bit...but for about 2 years i searched only trying to get a 3/S... so im realy kinda torn, however lately the majority of things im hearing are leaning to the VR4, with the exeption of the overhead cost of the vehicle... but again any and all info/input is apreciated

From personal experience with Hondas and Mitsus, I find that Honda is much more reliable as a daily driver. However, since you're looking for a speed machine, I wouldn't worry so much about that since you plan on pushing your car's limits. Then again it kinda sounds like you want something you can depend on for a good while. If speed is the need, take the Mitsu, but I suggest you take the long run into consideration too if you're that concerned about a daily driver.

well the mileage on the civic is just at 70k, and i havent found a specific 3/S that i would get but for the most part the ones im lookin at are like in the 40k range or so. and as for reaching for speed, yes that is DEFINATELY a must! however i need something that will be somewhat reliable... i hear that for the most part the 3/S cars are pretty reliable, but i do think that the Honda would outlast it, im just not sure if she will outlast it after i turbo and do otherstuff to her... does anyone else have a turbo civic, that would know ? yeh as of recently the majority of what im hearing is telling me that what i need is the VR4 or R/T. but im always open to correction, and oposing views.
