1996 Eagle Talon ESi Questions..

Hey all! I am brand new here, I used to post on twoguysgarage.com but those guys were hassling me and not answering my questions. Anyways, from what I've seen, this seems to be a better website. Now, to get to my question. As you can see from my subject, I have a 1996 Eagle Talon ESi, but i'm looking for a lot more kick. I was wondering, would it be more worth my time to swap my engine out, or to make it into a turbo? And, what sort of price difference am i looking at? Thanks a lot everybody!

P.S. Sorry if this question has already been asked, i checked to see if it was, but may have missed it.

Waste of time

You'd probably be much better off buying a turbo model than converting your ESi. It would be more cost effective, but if you really want to do it here's how-

Quoting a post from DSM Tuners :

"If you get a turbo engine its easy, if not heres whatcha need, still not hard, I can get those motors for 1100-1200 all day long.

turboing the non turbo 4g63 is relatively easy

Ok, you need to get:

450 cc injectors
resistor pack
exhaust manifold
turbo
02 sensor housing
downpipie
IC piping
intercooler
knock sensor
Turbo ECU
turbo MAF
Oil and coolant lines, turbo front water pipe
Intake pipe

You need to put the ecu in and run 2 additional wires. For the knock sensor one is grounded and the other goes to the ecu, the turbo maf has 7 wires instead of 6 and the extra wire needs to go to the ecu. Thats about it, boost away. Run about 9 PSI. Run premium. Should be good for about 190 wheel hp very safely."

Your best bet is to check out Junk Yard Dog for pricing on those parts. I leave the decision up to you.

Not trying to be rude, this all sounds great if you are going to turbocharg a 4g63 non turbo, but the ESi has a 420A in it. I have some people tell me to swap my 420A for a 4G63 but i've suprisingly had more say keep the 420A, "they have amazing turbo kits for them". I can't remember the site that has them but i will find it for you. There's plenty of room under the ESi's hood for a very large turo can you say T60-6 it might take a few adjustments like the ones above but you could make it work.

probs with the 420a

Yes, you can get awesome turbo kits from Hahn Racecraft and other places, but the part availablity blows... Its a great little engine, but it is impossible to find aftermarket parts for it. If you can find them let me know. Id say go with a 4g63 engine swap with the turbo. Itd be easier and less time consuming. I was gonna go that route till i decided to put in a supercharged H22a JDM engine running 310hp with limitless parts at my disposal.
