STi vs EVO-8

Whats your preference. I realize this is the Lancer forum , but which do you think is the overall better car. Me , personally , I'm not a big fan of the STi styling , and extreme familiarity with the 4G63 helps make my choice the EVO-8

the EJ25 from the STi is nice but sube put lots of limiters on it...its a few hundredths/sec's faste in the quarter then the EVO but overall the EVO has a faster top end..which depends on your taste...i do like the 4G63 which over here in the states,i think think its got more potential cuz more peopl know about it...but my opinion... i say EVO

265? I thought it was going to have 300hp? You sure youre not talking about how much is going to the wheels?

only the US version with the 2.5 engine makes that much.....the rest of the world gets a 2.0 engine

I would take the Evo, it is the better performer and it is better looking. The only thing I don't like about it is the guage cluster.

I'll be the first to say STi. I prefer Subaru's engineering, and the Evo is already very popular/common around my area. Plus I would be content with modest modification to an already powerful machine.

As for styling I like the Evo 8 better than previous Evos, but I'd take the '99 Impreza's style over the '04 STi.

Both are great cars though.

I dont how many times Iv ever had to repeat this now, but every road test I have ever seen between an EVO and the same year STi puts both cars with .5 a second of each other, which is generaly about as accurate as you can get.
When it comes to performance both cars could not be more equal.

However they differ in other areas, the EVO is a much more aggresive car, in both ride and the way it handles, while the STi is a bit softer, and more is generaly regarded as being better suited to day to day comuting.

But at the end of the day the only thing seperating the two cars is an objective personal opinion.
And you have to have driven both before you can have an accurate one.

NOTE: Don't compare US models, as the US EVO 8 is dumbed down for the US market (infer what you like) and the US spec STi has yet to be released, but by the sound of it despite its cliamed extra .5l will still only have as much hp as the 2.0 the rest of the world gets.

the us evo is albsolutelly amzing as handling goes.....of course i have not seen yet a direct comparo with the jdm spec evo so i'm not sure how different it is....

and the us sti is actually out ffor about a month now.....also its power its 300hp 300tq....i belive that is higher than the normal one. Isn't it?

The US EVO 8 should handle as well as a real EVO 8, but it uses an older engine, possibly from either the 6 or 7, and a less sophisticated center diff and read diff, most likely also from the 6 or 7, its really a bit of a bastard child, and by the sound of it knocked up by Mitsi to catch as many sales as they could useing a below average product.

The new STi which has been out here for about 6mnths, and avliable in Japan since the end of last year makes at least 300hp, its quoted at "280hp" but it weighs more than the previous car and with only a small increase in torque is still measuably faster, either Subaru have created an inertialess drive or thier mis-quoting the hp.
The US spec STi also sounds like a bit of a bastard child built to capture sales based solely on media hype.

true the us evo might be a bit weird compared to the jdm but its still the real thing.....SCC did a comparison between it and it managed to beat around a track the new S4 the M3 and it was beat only by the carerra 4s....

the slighty upgraded vishnu evo manged to take even the carrera though....

bottom line its pretty darn good....again maybe its not as good as the jdm but its still pretty sweet....

about the US sti the reviews are pretty good and aparently the powertrain is amazing....again i would be curious to see how it fares against the jdm one....

btw me an polygon saw an sti today in a cinema parking lot....its was sweet
