Question Newbie here, just a few questions..

Hi, I am new to the board I am a guy from nyc, and I see this is a very helpful forum...
Sorry if this has been answered already or is a common question....
well if it is a few common question...

If I get a 1990 240 h/b, and decide to do a s15 front end conversion, do I suffer any negative effects?

Will the frame be generally weaker, and might split if I get into an accident? (sorry i had to ask lol)

Does any handling or weight ration change with the above change?

Is the hatch back better or the coup? (handling wise and weight balance rationm, looks, and all that..)

I live in nyc, is it hard to get a s15 conversion (if anyone knowS?)?

and so far my last question (i might have more )

I heard that 1989 - 90 240 are bad for modifying (engine swapping, turbo) because of something about the steering and the engine being single cam? ka24e?? is it okay if i get a 1990 or should i be best off trying to look for a 1991-1993? I do not like to do dragging, but i still might keep the original motor and just put some investment into it...

I really want a hatch with a s15 front end conversion flip lights are getting too old now..

WELCOME
another nyc head in here. im from queenz where are you from?

ok i can answer some of the questions you asked..
1. s-15 conversion is not hard to do.. all you nee is the lights and fenders, bumper of if the lights and some other stuff.. some companies sell the whole package for about 2-3g's and most shops can do this im sure you will find a shop come on itz new york if they can put s-15 lights on a crx it can be done to a 240sx..

now for the engine department.. i can help you more here..
yes the 89-90 comes with the ka24e which is a sohc 4cyld.. not a bad motor but the dohc ka24de is better found in 91+240sx.. especally if you want to turbo the motor.. if you want to go the n\a route then the ka24e is also good.. im not sure but i think the member MYNISMO as a ka24e motor that he has modifyed and from what he says it pretty quick..

btw i like the hatch alot more then the coupe..

Well if i do get a 1990, i can pick up a ka24de for cheap anyways right?

itz not just the light its the bumper that u have to get that will fit the 90 240sx and u need the s-15 lights, brackets to fit the lights hood, and fenders that are compatiable with the lights and the 90 240sx.. sorry but im not really a exterior kinda of person im more of the engine man

as for the ka24de of you dont plan on turboing the motor there is no need to swap fora ka24de you can get about 250 wheel hp from a worked ka24e.. if you want to turbo you migh also want to look into a sr20det swap as well itz all up 2 u tho..

I can help you out with the front end. I love the S15 front end more than anything in the world too, and I found a kinda cheap website for it. try www.importfan.com. You'll need to buy a compatible hood($400ish), head lights($800ish, unless you can find on ebay for cheaper) conversion fenders($250ish), and a front bumper(400ish). These are just prices, I haven't talked to anyone who's actually done the conversion to see how it fits and if you need any professional work done to it. So you're probably looking at about $2g's. Right now I'm trying to sell my 96' for a 91', but I haven't decided if I want to go show and do the conversion too or go sr20/ka-t and some nice tiens first. Good luck with yours and keep us updated.

if you want the conversion to fit right youd better be ready to spend more than $2K...

How much more than 2k do you expect. Like I said, I only know the prices for the pieces, not any of the work that needs to be done because I don't know anyone who's done it...

I don't think I would call flip lights "old". I would rather use the words "mean", "awesome", "shark-like". Let's be honest, the s13 style kicks some serious ASS. Personally, I think the silvia stlye front end is ugly and makes the 240sx look like every other car that's on the road today (boring). Just my opinion.

If you buy cheap conversion parts you're gonna spend more money to get them to fit right

You're gonna be better off buying QUALITY conversion parts that are gonna fit right the first time instead of buying knockoff parts(importfan) and MAKING them fit right

Hey ghost you paint your car yet?!?!?!

Back on topic the front end on the hatch is best s15 front matches the curvation of the hatch but look blah on the s14 and the s13 coup. Also those front ends you see for sale are front clips they are just half the car but ppl buy the clips for the motor and all the goodies inside. The Lights alone go for $600+, the fenders are bout $300+, just get an after market hood CF maby its cheaper. And purty much just everything else turbo2nr said!! good luck!!
