No it will be built in Tenn. on the Altima platform. I've heard speculation that the new IRS will accomodate 4WD.

Alti-Max
So, basically what Nissan is doing is giving all the engine options and style to the Altima so that eventually they just won't make the Maxima anymore because the Altima is available with a 4-cyl, V6, or V8.
 Its already as big as the Maxima... Since the 350Z will be out next year, they need to get rid of a model to make room for another model. too much overhead means low profits. |

It looks to me like the Altima is taking over the territory that the Maxima used to occupy, while Nissan is contemplating making a Max that truly fulfills its claims of being a "4 Door Sports Car." Right now, the Altima has about an inch more in every dimension, 2/10 of a second in 0-60, and 1/10 in 1/4 mile times. However, the Maxima comes with a more tuned motor and a six speed, so it should be capable of more (especially since it costs more). In future, I suspect that our Maxima will mirror one of the future Skyline models in Japan. We already have the G35, with the R35 GT-R on the way (we think). If we're going to get the in-between models (GTS, GT-T, whatever they end up calling them), then it seems plenty logical to use the 4 Door Sports Car's moniker. For now, the Altima and Maxima are simply two cars that are too alike for their own good.

i think those 1/4 times are wrong
its something like 14.3 for the new maxima.....I heard some guy bragging about that time he pulled of stock. I am sure it was very aggressive driving =) |
