Angry DRL melt down

2001 Yukon. I noticed the drl lenses discoloring a little, the bulbs appeared dark although they were working. I pulled the headlight assemblies off to check it out. What I found, the drl bulbs (4157K) are getting so hot the bulb holders are melting. Contaced the local dealer who replaced the parking\drl assemblies. When I got it home I notice they left the blackened bulbs in. Called them, they said they were working to did not replace them. I do not want the new assemblies to also discolor. I replaced the original bulbs with Amber 3157's. Hope they burn cooler????? They also look pretty good being amber. I wrote GMC about the problem, wonder if they will respond. I now know why you see so many GMC\Chey's with one or both drl's out. They get to dam hot.

Question Re: DRL melt down

Derf,

Any luck on the DRL's. I wanted to change mine, but couldn't find the exact bulb number, so i took off the headlight assembly to look at the bulb number. I saw the same thing that you saw, the housing was pretty much melted. Did the 3157's work out better for you? If you can recall what was the exact bulb type you used?

thanks!!
