Tire Size For 17" Wheels ?

Hello,

This is my first time posting in this forum, so take it easy on me!

I am getting this wheels for my mustang, but i don't know what type and size of tires would be better for my car.

Let me know your opinion please.

lol...those rims look funny

What are the width of the wheels that you plan on buying? My stocks are 17x8s and i have 245/45s. The brand of tire is up to you and how much you want to spend and the quality you want.

Out of all the street tires I have had, I like AVON's the best. I have also heard Nitto makes a good street tire too.

They are 17x18s too...

YOU DON'T LIKE THEM? you think they are gonna look funny on my car? OH MAN! I KNEW IT!

oh well, i'm stuck with them now. But getting back to the question. What am i looking for when buying tires?. I don't mind the money (well actually i do) but i wouldn't mind expending whatever amount if i know that they are going to help. Do you mind explaining me about tires and stuff, i know this is gonna sound stupid but i want to learn.

I may not know much about cars, but i want to learn as much as i can. I'd like my GT to beat any car that pulls next to me

Thank you guys!

Wait, is this a typo? 17"x18" rims??? I really hope this is a typo. If this is the actually size, I hope you like big paper weights!

On your year car and 17X8 rim you can get away with a 265/45 comfortably. I just threw a set of 17X8 silver polished bullits on my 87 and I'm using 255/45. The tires are Bridgestone RE750, they are awesome tires and stick something fierce and are still very good in the rain. They are pricey IMO they are around $180-190 if you cant get a deal somewhere. But awesome tires.

Those wheels....

I was going to say to get some 275s / 17 Nitto DRs but after seeing them... I dont think you have burnouts and racing in mind. Id say get 245/45/ZR17s on all 4 so you can rotate them

No one's docking your wheels man. They're talking tires.

Since you wanted to be taught about tires I'll tell you where all these #'s are coming from.

245/45 ZR-17

245 - The width of the tire. This is how much of a contact patch you get on the road. What you're going to burn when you pulverize the ricers.

45 - This is your sidewall %. the sidewall (the part you see when looking at your ar from the side... duh!) is 45% of the Tire width (245).

ZR - First of all the "R" means that you have radial tires. Which is... common. You'll see it on on almost every single car you'll ever encounter on the open road. The "Z" is the interesting part. This is your tire's speed rating. This is the amount of friction your tires can handle at a certain speed (friction makes air expand in tires... to much heat from speed = boomtown in tire). There are all sorts of different letters and theres a book saying what speed they can handle. "Z"R speed rated tires can handle 150mph+ Let's jsut say it can go as fast as your 'Stang can pump out.

17 - This is what diameter rims it fits. You're getting 17in rims so naturally you need 17 in tires.

Hope that filled you in. Sometimes the speed rating isn't noted. Usually the tired at rated around 110-118, but I'd ask the ppl who put them on b4 you take your chances. Better to be in the know w/ your mech than seeing him as a wizard... why I was always interested in cars.

Oh, I forgot!

There's a difference between forged and unforged rims. I don't really know the difference right now (although a search on google will probably tell you all), but forged is better. I think it is because the metal is more even all over rather than possibly being concentrated in minute places. Yes that would make a difference (the weights on your tires are small but omg they make a big difference in alignment).

Now you know!
