Heavy Murcielago

First time here for me... take it easy on me
At over 1600kg Murcielago is much too heavy. I wish Lamborghini would release a lighter version like a Murcielago SV or GT. I think the biggest problem is the old steel space frame design it uses when other supercars are using lightweight monocoque carbon-fibre chassis and also rwd instead of heavy 4wd. I'm hoping the Murcielago's replacement will be able to blow away the Ferrari Enzo, Pagani Zonda and the others.
The Murcielago is a very beautiful car although not very lamborghini-esque in its design which is a shame. The interior looks bland though but with audi's input you expect it to feel solid, really well put together which it does apparently. Oh well...

The Murciélago do not use a space framesbut a tube frame made of light weight steel rods and performance welded together (diablo uses also a tube frame). the new Gallardo however uses a space frame made by audi!!!!! and that is the only Lamborghini (as far as i know).

I'm quite sure that's what a steel tubular space frame is, which is what the Murcielago uses and the Diablo and the Countach used...? It is a very old fashioned design that has been replaced by cf monocoque in supercars (McLaren F1,F50,Zonda,Enzo...).

So will the Gallardo's chassis be aluminium or steel? Aluminium is much lighter so that would be a good start and would be much cheaper than cf monocoque I guess...

you know how if you strip an ordenary car down you have this weird looking frame that is how the Gallardo is going to be made !!!!

I don't know if you ever noticed, but those cars cost at least 2 times more than a Murcielago.. and one of the reasons is the cf monocoque! with the steel tubular frame, Lamborghini makes supercars much cheaper and with very near performance as those cars you listed (apart from the McLaren F1 - but this one costed 3 times more - the enzo does cost 3 times more too, but performance isn't very far from the Murci!)

as for the Gallardo.. yes, it uses an Aluminium chassis or better said: a 'Structural alumnium space frame, based on aluminium extruded parts welded to aluminium caster joint elements' - from Lambocars.com

Pringles, the Murci wasn't even designed to compete with cars of that caliber. But maybe when the budget gets a little larger at Lambo they will build a car to compete with the Enzo's and Pagani's.

So where's Tony been? Nearing completion on the new game maybe?

Hopefully any later murci models (SV, GT, GTR???) will use an alloy frame like the gallardo, also there may be a RWD model (SV) both of these things reduce weight alot, and my guess is with RWD and a alloy frame the murcielago could be around 1300-1400kg, or possibly less.
