Warning tone no longer works

Today I started a new job that required me to be up while the sun was still rising (6:30-ish). This meant I had to use my headlights. You can probably see where this is going. Anyhow, I left my headlights on all day at work, battery died. Fine, my dad came and jump started me.

However, the audible dinging sound (when you leave your keys in, or, headlights on) hasn't worked for about a month or so now. It just kind of quit out of nowhere. I checked the Owners manual but couldn't find anything.

Is it a fuse? How do you fix this? I'm very forgetful, and that tone has saved me from locking myself out quite a few times.

I've checked the section in the manual about the fuses, none of them made reference to it or seemed like they would be the one to do the trick..

even though, because i have had the same problem before. Take off the fuse cover, (open your driverside front door, and there is a little piece that clips off the side of your dash) take that off and one by one pull one fuse and check to see if its good...(to do this simply look at it and if its bad usually it will have a blackish film in it and/or the little metal piece inside of it will be in two pieces...it should be in one. So just look at each one pull one, look at it and if its good put it back. do that one by one till you find bad one. There isnt very many so it shouldnt take you very long. Also on the inside of the little door you pull off to get to the fuses there is a diagram that shows you what fuses go to what. You can looif you can figure out all the abriviations. i hope that helps. If your completely lost im sure i could take some pictures of mine for you.

a 2000 cavalier, yep that's the problem. i don't know why, but alot of ppl have been having the same problem if they completely remove the stock radio. wut u have to do (if u wanna fix this) is relocate the stock radio unit somewhere (trunk or something....)

the reason it doesn't work is because the chime is part of the radio, no stock radio, no chime.

Just kind of an FYI. I was told by many people that in some of the 2000 cavaliers, removing the stock radio disables the ABS and airbags. I was told this by numerous car audio installers in my area. They all actually refused to install my Sony unless I let them relocate the stock head unit. So in a fit of pride and having to prove them wrong, I removed the stock radio on X-mas eve and went for a drive. I found a good patch of ice and was able to test the brakes. Mine worked, the ABS kicked in like a charm. I was a little hesitant about testing the airbags(hopefully I never see those things again). Anyway, the point here is that I don't know for certain how accurate this info was, but I thought I would throw my 2cents in here.

i just see this as chevy being gay about this, they don't want u replacing stock parts, so they add something vital in an attempt to keep u from doing it. thought i could add to the anger.

Re: Warning tone no longer works

I had read numerous times about the airbags not working and asked someone I knew at a dealership and said that wasn't true. My aftermarket deck was put in my car in July 2003 and the airbags are still operational(at least as far I can tell since I haven't wrecked) and they haven't deployed accidentally either. As for the ABS...not much use here in souther Arizona...but in the rain it seemed as though were working. I don't care about the chimes or warnings since I haven't had that problem yet. I found the below links very helpful in removing the dash and installing aftermarket deck in my 2001 cavalier. Hope this has been some help. I am getting ready to take it apart again to install xm.
