1967 McLaren M6A Sunoco
This is a Fisher Model & Pattern resin kit from the mid '90s. The castings are quite nice. It also has white metal & aluminum parts and a nice sheet of photo-etch. I really like the note at the top of the very informative instructions: "This kit is not suitable for children or adults with bad attitudes."
The parts are cast well but like many resin kits there are some pinholes to clean up in the body but they are not in difficult places to deal with and none are on the main surfaces. ![]() I scribed the panel lines a bit deeper while I did the standard clean-up. Still a bit more work before it's ready to paint. ![]() Now that all the parts have been dry-fitted, a base coat of white primer was applied to the body… ![]() The Sunoco Blue is a mix of Testors Dark Blue and Dark Red.

Re: 1967 McLaren M6A Sunoco
Even though the tires are resin they look great on the finished models. The wheels have cast white metal outer rims and on the other Fisher kits I've built they polish up fine and look great.
![]() I noticed one of the fronts had a small defect where the mold didn't fully fill that was too deep to polish out. ![]() I soldered it up, filed it smooth and repolished it.

Re: 1967 McLaren M6A Sunoco
When I polished the rear rims I noticed they had some irregularities due to shrinkage during casting that also could not be sanded/polished out. I was so focused on the issue in the front wheel I missed that the other front also had similar shrinkage issues as the rears.
![]() Machining the surface to smooth it out is an option, but with white metal being so soft it is risky to clamp in a chuck tight enough to hold it and not deform it. So I machined a new set from aluminum. The kit supplied parts are next to the tires. They probably would have looked OK, but I know it would have bothered me.

These are the assembled wheels with the aluminum outer rims.
