Angry Van Won't Start

Well, I have a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan EX with just under 40,000 miles on it. A few days ago, it just wouldn't start. I heard a clicking noise but it wouldn't do anything. After a few times of trying, it wouldn't do a thing and all lights dimmed. Started fine with a jump. Took it to Les Schwab and purchased a new battery but was informed that the starter was pulling too many amps (around 540 where 250 is supposedly normal). At this point, I am considering getting a new starter and that was the recommendation of Les Schwab. I'm new to working on my car and will be getting a book on the van today. I don't trust the dealership farther than I can throw them...I am just wondering if it sounds like the starter or could it be something else? Maybe someone here has had this experience before? Thanks for the input in advance.

BTW, it starts fine with the new battery, but I'm a little cautious about running this battery down if the starter is really pulling that many amps.
