Tail fins cause blind spots?
In late 1950s and early 1960s, some cars had tail fins. 1959 Cadillac had the tallest tail fins. Do tail fins cause blind spots? While watching "Fortune Cookie" movie, a man and a woman were talking in 1959 Cadillac. I think that the camera was on the hood pointing at the people and the tail fins. The tail fins look too high.

Re: Tail fins cause blind spots?
Good question. I have driven cars from that era and don’t recall having that problem. You had to use your mirrors, many were larger back then and were placed more forward on the fenders giving a better view if the side of the vehicles also they were larger. I don’t recall them being heated back then.

Re: Tail fins cause blind spots?
Side view mirrors were optional on cars before mid-1960s so if the car don't have side view mirrors, those big fins could cause blind spots.

If you can see your car's tail fins, or any other part of your car in your side-view mirrors while driving, they are set incorrectly.

Re: Tail fins cause blind spots?
Those are a bit to forward for me, they also look a little narrow which could limit the viewing area

A bit further back, yes. I just picked the image as an example of where I believe side-view mirrors should go.

Re: Tail fins cause blind spots?
Absolutely, tail fins can create blind spots, especially in older or larger vehicles. They might obstruct the driver's view, making it harder to see smaller cars or obstacles. It's a trade-off between aesthetics and functionality. Always good to check your mirrors and blind spots diligently!
