Opel Calibra DTM, UT Models, 1/24

Hi all,

I got the next one done, the DTM Calibra by UT Models.
I think this company only made that one plastic kit, everything else I found were die casts. Parts are OK but the instructions are sometimes more confusing than helpful.

Originally the kit was the Hasseröder version, but the Cliff livery is more iconic, so when I found DMC decals I decided to do this version.

And that was when my problems started: first the decals were yellowed or dirty... on the backside. So I had to put each watered decal on a plate the wrong way round to clean it from the backside - very carefully as they were also very brittle. Once applied I noticed that there was extreme silvering... so I took advantage of the black basecolor by just painting black over the silvering areas with a fine brush. That worked, so on with the clear coat...
And then I never had decals react as much on Mr. Super Clear before, there were wrinkles bigger than with the strongest softener... So I had to sand the wrinkles off, and touch up again, this time mostly the white areas... at the End probably 60% of the decal areas were touched up.

At least I could save it somewhat - you can only notice then problems when going closer than 10cm, but I will nobody let get close - so on the photos it will look fine.

Seatbelts were the only extras, hope you like it.

It looks fantastic. The amount of work you had to put into the decals is really impressive, I probably would have binned it. I'd be proud to have this on my shelf, great work!
