Nice model, yes, but too glossy.

It looks just like the model car it is, but not like a real car and certainly not like a real rally car from early 70ties.

Those cars had no high gloss, polished finish and certainly no clear varnish over all the sponsor's stickers (which were just this: stickers).

It is a pity to see so many rally car models at exhibitions or internet with high gloss finish overall and in most cases the varnish quite thick too. Maybe people should spend some time visiting historic rallys or look to some original pictures from then.

Sorry for that, but such a model is not a realistic model.

Building models is not my job.
I build for fun and for please me, not any realistic freak.
And don't tell where people should go.
You go to visit, stay there, better for you and for all.

So you know what is better for all?

Why so rude and impolite?

I do not know why you are building car models. But I have seen many of those high gloss models, and when I talk to the modelers who built them, they always tell me, their only aim is to get a "perfect paint job" or a "high gloss finish". Not to build realistic models. Ok, so they are painters, not modelers - in my opinion.

Of course their may be different opinions of what is "modeling". I have built rally car models since almost 40 years now and always have tried to build most realistic cars. Visited rallys, made pictures, studied books and pictures and drawings and so on.

If you prefer a model built oob with high gloss varnish, do so. It is just a hobby, just for fun.

But please accept that people may have different opinions - and may be you can accept criticism without being impolite...

Re: Alpine Renault A110 - Tamiya 1/24

You have to be polite.
A guy demanding what people should do. What a freak!.
You should go to live in a museum.
And keep your obsession with you there! Forever.
Leave people alone.

I will keep building my models without any obligation.
Just for fun and relaxing.
This is because I like hobbies.
Bye bye.
Have a nice stay.

Re: Alpine Renault A110 - Tamiya 1/24

@Quijote and @Jonalfre:

Maybe there is a bit of a language barrier here, I don't know, but the tone of some of these messages can be, and is being, interpreted as rude/impolite and degrading the hard work of a fellow modeler who is proud, and rightfully so, of their hard work. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but it is okay to keep those opinions to themselves. Or, if you choose to share your opinion, make it clear that's what it is. Suggesting people who have differing opinions are wrong and should alter their approach to conform with someone else's opinion is no longer offering an opinion. Maybe that wasn't the intent here, but it's kind of come off that way.

Modeling cars can be similar to restoring real cars. Some folks choose to keep the layer of dust on their historical barn find. Others choose to restore the car to it's original glory, and still others choose to modify the car to incorporate some modern features and technologies. Are any of these drastically different approaches wrong? I think most work agree they are not. It's up to the person shelling out the money to do with their project what they want to. And again, model car building should be no different.

Shake hands, share a virtual beer, treat others with respect, and be yourselves. After all, the world would be a pretty boring place if everyone was the same.
