Leaving A/C out?
Hi,
I have a 90 Civic LX and I am going to swap in a 90 CRX SI engine into it. I know a kid who has a 2nd gen RX7 and when he rebuilt the engine he took out the A/C and power steering and also gutted his CAT. He had lost to my friends 2002 Nissan Se-R but this time he raced him after the mods and actually kept up with him a lot better. He kept dead even wit him until he hit 4th gear then he fell back again. Well anyways when I do this engine swap can I just leave out the A/C will that help at all. I definetly do not wanna take out power steering because it really sucks without it. But how much does the A/C weigh you down actually? Will it be hard to resell the car once I take out the A/C? Thanks

I would ditch the A/C unless it gets really hot where you live. Ditching the A/C can usually free up a few HP. I'd get rid of the power steering too, it's not hard at all to drive without power steering in a honda. Both of those will free up a few HP, but of course re-sale value will decrease.

the only real thing that weighs anything is the compressor on the engine, and that's stupid to leave out the A/C because even though it's just a few pounds, it only gives you 3 or 4 extra horsepower

and taking that stuff off does not give u more HP, it only frees up power not being sent to the wheels. anyway take it all off and you might save around 30-40lbs.

Its not that it will give you more power. But it saves weight and less weight is always good.

It stays in the 90's here all summer long. Thats shitty. I have no A/c so I went to wal mart and bought one of those little fans that you plug into the cigarette lighter. It is still hott as fuck but its better than nothing.

If I was still living in Missouri, I'd definently take the A/C out...since it's only hot in the summer (and even then, if you roll the windows down, it's not so bad)...but now that I live in Tampa, Florida...A/C is a MUST for me! I'm considering taking on the task of an H22A swap currently...so if I was to do that, I fear A/C might have to go. Who knows, B18C works, too!
