Legalities Of Swap In California
I am going to buy a car and have it shipped to CA. Does anyone know the legalities of having an S13 Redtop SR20DET engine in a 1995 240SX in CA? I want to know what I need or have to do to get the car registered here in CA and if there are any legality issues with having a car with a different engine. Please reply quickly as I want to purchase this car for $9,999. The car is in great condition. I need information fast please as I don't want someone else to purchase this car before me. The guy told me that some other local guy was suppose to buy it from him but, he never showed up with the money or called back. I have a pre-approved loan for $10,000. I know engine swapping will cost an arm and a leg but, I am trying to get the car from him for $10,000, no more or less with an already swapped engine. You can't beat this deal or find it on anywhere else. I know on eBay they have it for around 14-16k for swapped ones already. I am trying to get it from him for only $10k. Shipping the car will only cost me about roughly $800.

You will NOT pass smog test or e-tet with an SR in Cali

If you get pulled over good luck explaining it to THE MAN.
SR's and RB engines are ILLEGAL to have.That's why websites say "for offroad use only".. People still do it anyways though...

How do I go about having it passed and getting around it? I'm pretty sure that this one guy had an SR20DET in CA. It was the orange one and he sold it on eBay. It was mentioned in one of the popular car magazines. Turbo, Super Street or something like that. Why would it not pass smog test? So would it be better for me to just buy one without a swap already and do the swap myself without anyone knowing? If I can't get it I'm seriously thinking about getting a 200SX SE-R instead of the 240SX. I really like the 240SX Red model 95-98 but, if I can't do any of this without being caught and fined or whatever the hell they do, then I don't really want to buy one.

Just find a 240sx with low miles and turbo that instead
 The KA IS a legal motor and it would have more power than the SR if turbocharged.

does anyone know what the CO and HC outputs for a sr20det with stock exhaust are? they Limit for my state on a vehicle from 1981 and newer is CO- 1.2 and HC 220
but thats if you live in one of the emission testing counties...
