HELP Pontiac G5 Stuck Gear Shift

So today my car's gear shift became stuck and won't shift gears even after removing the emergency brake and pressing on the brake pedal. The car has no built-in gear shift unstuck mechanism like other cars have. What might have caused the shift to do that was maybe because of me hitting it hard with my leg. This is another story but to sum it up, I jumped across from drivers side to passengers side and managed to hit the shift really hard with my leg. Important information to know: The car has had transmission problems in the past but it still ran fine.

Should I take the vehicle to the mechanic or has this happened to any of you and is there a quick fix to it? I'm hopefully not expecting anything too pricey. 200-500 at the most.

The shift knob button is stuck as well. But overall the gear just won't shift, it was shifting fine before with no issues.

It's just stuck on park and won't budge at all. Not even force will make it budge. I pulled on it forcefully but no avail.

HELP

Probably a bad shift interlock. GM is notorious for them failing.

You said probably? Could it be something else? However, your answer sounds about right, symptoms match up with what I'm dealing with. Oh and thanks for the kind help!
