Loud noise
I have a 2009 Jetta with 174,000 miles. When I’m driving the exhaust is REALLY loud...except when going around a right curve... then it’s normal sounding. Any ideas what it could be before I bring it in. I don’t know much about vehicles that’s why I’m asking people who know. Is it the catalytic converter?

Re: Loud noise
I don't think it is the exhaust at all. I think it is a wheel bearing.

Re: Loud noise
The tires were replaced last year all the brake system was replaced last year there is no shaking nothing to do with steering so I wasn’t thinking that it would be the brakes or the bearings And the noise does not seem like it’s coming from anywhere near the wheel wells

Re: Loud noise
Exhaust doesn't change sound when you turn. Bearings will get silent, or louder, when you turn. A bad bearing doesn't have to have any shaking, it could just be loud.

Quote:
If you have a crack in the exhaust system somewhere, it can open and close depending on which direction you are turning - because the exhaust system is supposed to be able to move (it is hung on rubber.) |

Re: Loud noise
It’s loud but when I get up to 30 and higher it’s really loud, especially when the accelerator is engaged
