Another Alternator Problem
Alright well to continue my saga, i finally got that bitch bolt off but now we cant get the alternator out, there is no room, we have already decided we are not taking the head off just to remove it, thats how we got the one off the dx, so anyone have a way from experience to get the alternator out, i was thinking remove the master cylinder but ive never done that and i dont know how to plug the brake lines, people say use cork, but one we dont have cork and two i dont think it would work anyways, any help would be appreciated guys because im stuck at home until we get this shit done.

Is it the stock alternator? there should be room...
I had an oversized alternator put in a while back, and they had to remove the axel to get it in... Changed that out for a smaller alternator, and they were able to just put it in without removing anything...

dude what the hell, i believe its the stock alternator since both that i have are the same size but dude there isnt enough room, the master cylinder sticks out and then on the left side you got the fuel rail and then on the bottom nearest if your standing over the car you have the mount and head, dude i know there aint enough room, in chilton they say remove the air cleaner assmebly but for one thats on the other side of the motor assuming there talking about the air box and two cant get it over there because the back mount is in the way, what the hell!

Just remove the driver side axle. It'll be easier.

All the helms manual says is:
If necessary, remove the mount bracket bolts and the upper and lower mount brackets.

remove your master cylinder, ive done it 3 times before and it worked, I even put a 5th gen civic alternator thats bigger than the 4th gens, it still fit, it was a tight squeeze and still worked. just move the brake lines out of the way. All the times that I taken off my master cylinder, i never had to bleed the brakes.

DONT DO ANY OF THAT!!!
i did this without removing anything. when u get evrything unhooked shove the alternater over to the other side of ur manifold, and you have to push sum hoses out of the way but it will come right up through there. hope it works for ya.

Yeh thats what i did but i think its still easier to do it the other way. How did you use the 5th gen alternator when they're obd1?? |

Honda says that the quickest way if you know what you are doing is just to pull the axle. If you have done it before, you know it is easy, if the car is level, you shouldn't have any trans fluid come out, and it gives pleanty of room.
