3.5L V-6 frequently skips on acceration

My Pontiac G6 with a 3.5L V-6 (with only 81,180 miles on it) frequently "skips" when I apply gentle acceration to it. This also occurs with Cruise on. I changed the air mass flow unit, but that did not help. Any suggestions, please??
