Vancouver IPMS model show 2018

October 7th was the annual IPMS model show in Vancouver Canada. It was my second time attending and although it covers mostly military and sci-fi subjets there was also a good participation of model cars.

Here are some of the ones I really liked:

And here is the next opportunity to see some models in person for all of you living close to Vancouver BC:

Some nice build there. Liked Mazda Cosmo and McLaren the best.

I heard a rumor that next year will be the last modelshow and the organizers will be shutting it down.

The rumor you heard is regarding the Car model show (March 2019) not the IPMS show (October each year).

I just joined the car modeling club to see what I can do to avoid the Car Model Show being the last one next year. Hopefully it will still go on.

Re: Vancouver IPMS model show 2018

Christophe, thanks for the pictures. Great selection of car kits.

Are there any model shops in Vancouver area (car models) nowadays? My sister lives in Vancouver and I visited her couple of times. I remember models shop in North Vancouver (close to Sea bus terminal), small one in West Vancouver, one in Northern part of Richmond and one in New Westminster. I tried to locate them in Google street view but it seems they do not exist anymore

There are two that I strongly suggest:

> Magic Box in Vancouver (full selection of kits, paints, supplies, RC). It is a little far from the North Shore where I live but it is worth the trip from anywhere in the Vancouver area.

> Burnaby Hobbies in Burnaby (smaller scale than Magic Box but still a fair choice of model kits for automotive and bike enthusiasts). It is not too far from HWY1 which makes it fairly easy for access.

I am not aware of any other hobby shop worth the trip for car model kits but I am open to suggestions if anyone has any. Sadly Mr. Hobby closed last year as the Owner retired and nobody took over. It was a pretty small shop but very conveniently located on the North Shore. They were carrying the essential supplies and a good selection of Tamiya and Revell kits.
