2001 Forester P0500 #E1 Speed sensor

was looking under the dash as the bulbs have gone, and noticed a green connector was unhooked. Hooked it up and the check engine light came on. Plugged in the OBD and got this code. Any ideas as to why this is happening, and does anyone know what the green connector is for?
