Have someone switch the ignition to on (not cranking over) while you listen near the tank for the pump to build pressure. In my car I can hear it from the drivers seat. If no noise, check the harness/plug to the pump is clean and secure.

Yes, I think this has happened to some others on the forum. I think P10DET has had a fuelpump die on him.

Yepper.

If you removed the fuel line and didn't get cover with fuel, I'm pretty certain your pump is gone. The line should be under quite a lot of pressure.

It's not hard to replace, just a little scary. Disconnect the battery (I forgot to - DOH!). Ground the car. Ground yourself if you really want to be safe. You don't want any sparks with the tank open.

BTW, you don't have to drop the tank. The pump is replaced from inside the car. You have to remove the rear seat and you will find an access plate. Just have patience. Took me about an hour to an hour and a half. I could do it in half the time now.

Hi guys, I am new to this board and I own a 91 G20. I had the same problem as you which the engine would start for a few second then stutters and dies. I tried changing the battery and checking if it was the alternator but it ended up being the fuel pump causing the problem. Your situation was very similar to mine, so i gotta say it was the fuel pump.

If it is the fuel pump, like DET said, it's right under your rear seat. It's not like domestic cars where you have to drop the tank, remove gas, and all that other pain in the ass stuff. Good luck with your car.
