got a BIG problem

well SH!T my truck has some problems to begin with (missing motor mount bolt gas gauge doesnt work stuff like that) so today i was drivin home from practice and i look in my rear view mirrow and there is smoke all over the place i thought to myself WTF smoke... so i called up my buddi and i asked him what could cauz it and he said either

1. piston rings are shot (which is prolly what it is)
2. it could be a bent valve and that would suck as well

and i dont remember waht the third was but i could use some help with this kindof a big problem to deal with

by the way the only time the smoke comes out is when u hit the gas and the more u get on it the more smoke comes out... and the smoke is a lite grayish color.... all help is appriciated

beat up ranger

Hey bud another possibility to your problem is that your valve seals and/or valve guides are shot. One way to check if its the valve seals or guides is to run the truck for a hour or so and shut it off if it shoots out a plume of smoke then thats the more likely cause. If your truck smokes all the time even at idle it may be the rings. A bent valve not likely unless your truck was running smooth then when the problem showed up it started missing. Even then just a bent valve usually wont make the engine smoke.

Possibilities

That's right, as for making the smoke from the sounds of it the piston rings being out is a major possibility. To check them simply get the car running where noone is gonna mind your smoke all to much, also if your laws have policies about clean exhaust, and limited so9und and all that good stuff, then have it runnin where cops aren't bound to find you, if you have it running for a while, just idling, and there is no smoke, but whenever you hit the gas you get that smoke (i believe that's what you already said) then most likeley it is the piston rings.

If you idle and you have smoke, it's time for a new truck . . . jus kiddin : Anyways if you have smoke when your idling then that means points of combustion are wrong this can make everything just that much more difficult, most likeley it not just your piston rings that are faulty it may be your valves and seals. there must be too much feul or too much oxygen entering the mix which distrubs the proper ratio of gas to air that your carborator stresses so hard to make, to check this you might as well take your truck into a garage, unless you are a mechanic yourself, though i doubt you are, since your posting this problem here anyways, hehe.

Anyways if you find out what the problem is and need any more assistance post back here and I am sure that many people at AF including myself would be more than happy to help out!
