Tamiya Ferrari F40, not for the purists
Doing a collaboration with @the_kyza from Instagram. Turning one of his renders into scale realism.
![]() So I ordered the Tamiya F40 and was at my door in just over a week. First up was to decide on wheels. Went with Work Meister 18" as I found the bigger diameter wheels made the car too high. ![]() Also checked the dreaded fitment, on the rear hatch. Got a bit lucky as it is not too badly twisted. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now probably the purists are already disgusted with the render as the wing has been removed. Well, I'm going to do more than just that. ![]() Yep, I'm replacing the small block V8 twin turbo with a quad rotor twin turbo. I will be mating the R26B engine to the Ferrari gearbox. Modified the front brakes to get the Meisters under the guards. Had to cut down the brakes. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking. |

Tamiya Ferrari F40, not for the purists
Rear wing has been removed. Holes plugged with sheet styrene and filled with Tamiya light curing putty.
![]() ![]() ![]() Began opening the side vents. ![]() Also mated the R26B to the F40 gearbox. Had to move one of the engine mounts as it would foul on and exhaust port. ![]() Definitely looks different with the wing removed. ![]() Now to sand and fix the fitment of the hatch and do the rear suspension. Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40, not for the purists
Definitely not for purists, but let's see how the result will look like.
At least painting the rear hatch will be a lot easier now!

Ha ha! There's some serious sink marks across the top of the hatch. Still filling and sanding. |

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40, not for the purists
interesting build!
looks so different without the wing...... looks like you got the twist out of the rear hatch, was it a simple task? |

Wasn't too bad. Had to remove some material where it was hitting on the intakes on the inside and removed some material around the hinges. I have just fitted magnets to secure in place |

Still sanding and filling the hatch to remove the sinks and flatten where the wing once was. Also removed the mold lines on the rest of the body.
![]() ![]() ![]() 2 x 2mm magnets were fitted to secure the hatch. This is a must for this kit. ![]() Hatch is starting to look better, more work needs to be done to get the gaps sorted above the wheels. ![]() I literally spent 10 mins just looking at how it is. Pretty happy so far. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking |

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40, not for the purists
I am disgusted!
Not really, go ahead and butcher it, the render looks awesome. Good luck with the build |
