Evap Issue; Gas Won't Fill. Ran out of gas. Breakdown.

Hi. Thank you in advance for any help with this.

I think I have an issue with EVAP in my vehicle. I can't fill the tank properly; it stops as if full at the gas pump every .8 gallon or so. The Check Engine light is on steadily. Tonight, it lurched and broke down as if out of gas (it apparently was) and I had to wait an hour for Roadside Assistance. I think maybe the floater doesn't work properly in this situation, so it didn't tell me it was out of gas? Because when the attendant added a gallon (it took a long time), I was able to drive away.

I wonder if maybe this issue disrupted the floater's function, so it doesn't tell me how much gas is in it? Because it drove home as usual once they added gas. Thank you for any opinions and thoughts on this.

What is your gas gage saying? Is it staying on F all the time?

It's quite possible you have two problems.......the fuel sender may be bad and giving you bad fuel level readings....

Also you may have an evap problem where the system is not opening up(venting), and not allowing air to escape, through the vent valve, as you fill the tank with gas.....the other possibility is a plugged canister, kinked evap line,
bad vent valve, etc.
