McLaren MP4/2, Beemax, 1/20

Hi

I managed to finish another one. Fortunately Beemax decided to close a big gap in the lineup of available 1/20 F1 plastic kits by releasing the 1984 world champion car MP4/2 (and later the '85 B version).

The kit is very nice, fits well, only the number of ejector marks is a bit higher than in other kits. I also got myself the Beemax detail kit, which is a must have. For a reasonable price you get etched parts (that don't have to be cut, only peeled off a foil), a sprue of fittings and a whole load of carbon decals. It was the first time for me using carbon decals over that big an area, the floor and the monocoque are completely covered, as well as the black sides of the wing parts - and everything worked out very well. The decals react nicely on a hair dryer. I only had to trim a little bit around the edges of the rear wing end plates, but I would recommend to sand the edges of the floor a bit. I did not use the carbon decals for the seat - I saw a photo of a MP4/2 with a greyish seat (might have been restaurated), and I preferred that look.

The cowling fits good, only at the very rear is a little gap, but maybe the cowling is slightly warped, because there are no parts in the way (I would recommend to lower E16 a little bit though).

Painted with decanted TS26 and TS36 , Mr Superclear Gloss on the body, Semigloss on the carbon parts. The poison decals are from Tabu, but I cut the red areas from the kit rectangles, since the Tabu ones were too light. Except for some additional wiring and the belt material everything from box and detail kit.

I'm looking forward to the announced BT52... and whatever Beemax will release in the future.

Hope you like it.

What a pity to hide all these details under the body shell - excellent work!
