HELP! '09 VW Passat 1.9 Diesel

Hi all,

I currently drive a '09 VW Passat which an issue has come up recently. Sometimes when I move up into 4/5th gear the steering wheel vibrates along with the front of the car as well as a strange thudding noise at the front.

When I change back down through the gears the noise clears and when I go back to 4th/5th then the noise/vibrations go away.

When the issue is happening it seems to be as I accelerate thenlet the pedal go the vibration/noise feels it's strongest.

I don't understand the issue when it seems to come and go. The only issue showing on my dashboard is that it is asking me to check the break pads.

Could this be causing this issue?.
