High Mileage & Extended Performance motor oils
My 2011 Toyota Camry LE takes 0W-20 SAE synthetic motor oil. The mileage on it is starting to get up there now.
At least two brands (Mobil 1 & Valvoline) offer this type of oil in a High Mileage variety. Is this motor oil really superior to "regular" 0W-20 SAE synthetic motor oil for high mileage vehicles? And what about "Extended Performance" motor oils that are supposed to be good for 15,000 miles between oil changes? Are they really superior to regular motor oil? |

Re: High Mileage & Extended Performance motor oils
In my opinion the extended mileage motor oils have an additive in them that softens and swells older rubber seals to prevent leaks. I don't think there is any other advantage to these oils, but I am not an expert on the subject. Perhaps someone else can chime in here with their knowledge/opinion.

Re: High Mileage & Extended Performance motor oils
I have heard the same things about the high mileage oils. Not sure how the additives will help my high mileage vehicles if they do not have leaky seals. Hopefully someone will have more information about them.
