VR4 vs VR4

There are only three VR4s in town and fortunately we have two of them. However that means that its a rare thing to actually line up against a matching car. Occasionally when we go around the state it happens, but never around here.

Most of the time my wife has had a different work schedule then me and more otten then not drives the Honda to work. Not yesterday however She had the 94 and I had the Spyder. You can see where this is leading.

I met up with her when she got out of work with a huge grin on my face. She saw me and smiled and without a word we knew we were going to find a spot to run them. She hopped into the car and we took off together with her in the lead. I had the top down and we got plenty of looks while making our way through town. Kind of like our own little mini-meet.

We drove slow enough that we could catch the on of the lights after the road went to two lanes so we could sit side by side. Behind us there were some younger drivers and I could see them pointing while we were pulling up to the light. Theresa and I started revving at each other. Damn if those two cars don’t sound sweet! We waited for the light to change and we each dropped the hammer from the 3K range. Now that is not optimal for these cars, but it’s a safe one so we don’t put extra wear on the trannies.

The 94 is stock other then a replacement K&N filter while the Spyder has beaucoup mods (it is 400 pounds heavier). Didn’t help enough. I think that the 94 has a bit of freak in it because she jumped off the line and had almost a car length by the time we hit thirty. Perhaps she had a better reaction time then me, but it sure looked like we were both started moving at the same time. Soon enough we were in the 50+ range and backed off. She slowed down along with me until we were going around 20. I got even with her and she lifted her hand and when she dropped it, off we were again. Same result. I stayed pretty close this time, but she continued to pull away until we backed it off when we were getting close to 60. There isn’t a lot of room on these roads with traffic coming up so we couldn’t go much out of second gear.

To make a long story longer (again) we kept slowing down, revving up and taking off. The kids behind would catch up every time we slowed down and watched us take off again. It didn’t look like they had any interest in passing and just wanted to watch. Eventually we got to were the lanes merge together on the way home. Traffic was a good quarter mile away (45 mph zone) so we lined up at 20 or so and took off. It was a race for front position. I did better this time, or she felt sorry for me, but I still couldn’t get out in front. The wife wins. Next time ‘I’ get the 94 and see what she can do against the Spyder.

We usually don’t run the cars against each other. Its just not something we sit around and think of doing. But now, I have to try it the other way. But here is a shot of the winner! (last years photo - didn't have a camera with me for shot during this one)

Yeah, and it is nice to be able to race a "somewhat" equal car. I'll never have that chance.

That is really cool man, i wish my girlfriend had the driving skills to race me. You're pretty lucky. Of course, all she has is a 4 door cavalier anyway, but the concept is still the same

I give you and your wife a big
